Über den Kurs

Machine learning is the science of getting computers to act without being explicitly programmed. In the past decade, machine learning has given us self-driving cars, practical speech recognition, effective web search, and a vastly improved understanding of the human genome. Machine learning is so pervasive today that you probably use it dozens of times a day without knowing it. Many researchers also think it is the best way to make progress towards human-level AI. In this class, you will learn about the most effective machine learning techniques, and gain practice implementing them and getting them to work for yourself. More importantly, you'll learn about not only the theoretical underpinnings of learning, but also gain the practical know-how needed to quickly and powerfully apply these techniques to new problems. Finally, you'll learn about some of Silicon Valley's best practices in innovation as it pertains to machine learning and AI. This course provides a broad introduction to machine learning, datamining, and statistical pattern recognition. Topics include: (i) Supervised learning (parametric/non-parametric algorithms, support vector machines, kernels, neural networks). (ii) Unsupervised learning (clustering, dimensionality reduction, recommender systems, deep learning). (iii) Best practices in machine learning (bias/variance theory; innovation process in machine learning and AI). The course will also draw from numerous case studies and applications, so that you'll also learn how to apply learning algorithms to building smart robots (perception, control), text understanding (web search, anti-spam), computer vision, medical informatics, audio, database mining, and other areas....

Very nicely explained the mathematical topics, even for people like me with some phobia regarding large formulas. Useful hands-on experience with MATLAB coding, which I would have had to learn anyway.

One of the best course at Coursera, the content are very well versed, assignments and quiz are quite challenging and good, Andrew is one of the best guide we could have in our side.\n\nThanks Coursera

I enjoyed taking this course, from the lectures, to the quizzes, to the programming exercises; they all added more insight into understanding and implementing machine learning algorithms. I thought the order in which the material was presented built a sound foundation for each subsequent lecture.

Professor Andrew Ng is a class act. I thank you for offering this course on this forum. This was the best $79 I've ever spent!

I hope to make quick use of these skills that I've learned from this course in the near future.

Thanks again!

Take care and GOD bless!

Very good course.

Would be better if the differences between Logistic Regression and SVM were clarified; they seem identical to me.

Also, it wasn't clear to me that Linear/Logistic Regression was formulated as Batch Gradient Decent (ie each step uses all examples) until later, when Stochastic Gradient Decent was introduced.

Very good to develop a understanding of the techniques covered from first principles, but does not cover tree-based algorithms.

In some places the course was a bit lengthy, but on the whole it was interesting and very well structured.

With this course I was able to immerse myself even more deeply in the subject area of machine learning.

Thanks a lot Prof. Ng for this course!

I think that use python should result in a better choice than Matlab/Octave for the exercises but the course is great

Loved this course.Using MATLAB for matrix calculations made work easier.Programming assignments and quizzes highlighted areas which I needed to work on so I found them helpful.Last but not the least, loved Prof.Ng 's style of teaching and also am grateful to Tom and other mentors for keeping up with questions I and other students had.

Only 4 out of 5 due to the fact it was too easy to pass the programming exercises without understanding what actually happened. Other than that, great online course. Highly recommended!

Great for an intuitive and practical introduction to machine learning, however the theory is left behind, which may be bothersome to some (it was to me anyhow). However, Mr. Ng really couldn't be clearer about what he discussed here !
