What is the difference between marketing versus sales? Marketing and sales differ greatly, but generally have the same goal. Selling is the final stage in marketing, which also includes pricing, promotion, place and product decisions. Marketing has the goals of increasing procedure, desirability and value. And increasing the number and engagement of interactions between potential customers and the organization. Achieving this goal may involve a dedicated sales team, or it might involve other techniques, such as advertising, sales promotion, publicity and public relations. Sometimes it involves both. Marketing begins with the buyer and is oriented around meeting the needs of the buyer. Sales, on the other hand, starts with the seller and is oriented around the needs of the customer. Sales emphasizes selling, what is available, whereas marketing emphasizes identifying market opportunity. Sales views the business as goods producing processes. And marketing views businesses as customer satisfying processes. Finally, sales views customers as a last link in the business, whereas marketing views customers as the very purpose of the business.
