Wow, communication sounds interesting. Is it easy for a graduate of Communications to find a job? College graduate is 毕业生. Find a job is 找工作. This structure indicates an concession which is usually featured in the first clause, and it is often negative in nature. In Mark's reply, although it is difficult to find a job, the major is still popular. Mark said young people in America like to work in companies with competitions. 美国的年轻人更喜欢在 竞争激烈的公司工作。 竞争 means competition. 激烈 means fierce. 你喜欢在竞争激烈的公司工作吗? >> 在这样的公司工作,如果做得不好,很容易被 炒鱿鱼。 >> 炒鱿鱼 means fire, lay off. Is it easy to get fired in a company with fierce competition? I think it depends. Let's look at Wang Haoming's description. 在这样的公司工作, 如果做得不好,很容易被炒鱿鱼。 In this sentence, Wang Haoming used 被 is a passive voice, to get fired in an undesirable outcome. We often use a formal passive voice in this type of situations. You don't like to stay in office and become routine, can you use 被 to translate this sentence? 我不喜欢被关在办公室里做一样的工作。 In this sentence, you don't expect to stay in the office, we can use a formal passive voice. Here 关 means lock somebody in. 被关在办公室里 means be locked in the office. It means you don't like to always stay in the office, it is boring.
