The diploma that ME-EM on Coursera students earn is the same diploma that students enrolled in the CU Boulder campus program earn. There are no "online" or "Coursera" designations on the diploma. The diploma will state that the student has earned a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Colorado Boulder.‎

Yes, you may enroll in the non-credit versions of the ME-EM curriculum, allowing you to preview courses before committing to the degree program. You may upgrade from non-credit to for-credit at any time during your learning journey. Additional material and assessments must be completed to earn credit; this material is only available after you pay tuition.‎

This degree is self-paced, and there is no minimum or maximum number of courses required per session. We recommend new students take one class in their first session as they adjust to the demands of this graduate-level program. In subsequent terms, we recommend students take 3 or fewer courses per session, which is equivalent to a full-time graduate-level course load. Students who take 3 courses per session complete the degree in about 2 years. Students must complete all courses (30 total credit hours) within 8 years.‎

Yes! Students who graduate from the program and earn the degree are welcome to attend on-campus graduation ceremonies but are not obligated to do so.‎

No. The Coursera degree and the on-campus degree are not interchangeable. If you start the Coursera degree, you cannot later switch to the on-campus program.‎

Online ME-EM students do not have access to campus facilities but can access online resources including CU Boulder libraries, Career Services, and ForeverBuffs Alumni Services.‎

Students taking for-credit classes receive an IdentiKey, which includes your CU Boulder login name and password. Your IdentiKey uniquely identifies you and acts as your student identification number. Students do not receive a physical Buff OneCard (student ID card).‎

Up to 9 credits offered by the CU Boulder Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MS-EE) and/or the CU Boulder Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS) on Coursera may be applied as elective credits toward the ME-EM degree. These credits may be distributed between the MS-EE and the MS-DS but you may only bring up to 9 credits. The MS-EE and/or MS-DS courses must be graduate level and meet all applicable academic standards and may not be double-counted toward two credentials of the same level. Only MS-EE and/or MS-DS courses offered through Coursera may be used.‎

Tuition is $667 per credit hour and $20,010 for the full 30-credit master’s degree. With “pay-as-you-go” tuition, you only need to pay for the courses you are taking in the upcoming term at the time of enrollment.‎

An engineering degree is not required; however, any STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) degree and/or relevant work experience is highly recommended. Classes benefit from students with a diverse set of experiences and a common desire to learn and excel in their careers. However, neither an undergraduate degree nor professional experience is required to complete this degree.‎

There are no tests required for admission, as admission to ME-EM is entirely performance-based. To be admitted to the ME-EM as a degree-seeking student, you must enroll in and complete a “performance pathway” with a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better. No more than three credits of C+ can be applied toward degree program requirements.‎

The ME-EM on Coursera is open to students around the world. However, due to current restrictions imposed by the U.S. Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, we cannot provide online courses to the following countries: Cuba, Iran, Sudan, North Korea, Syria, and the Crimea Region of the Ukraine.
