  • Access to lectures and assignments depends on your type of enrollment. If you take a course in audit mode, you will be able to see most course materials for free. To access graded assignments and to earn a Certificate, you will need to purchase the Certificate experience, during or after your audit. If you don't see the audit option:

    • The course may not offer an audit option. You can try a Free Trial instead, or apply for Financial Aid.

    • The course may offer 'Full Course, No Certificate' instead. This option lets you see all course materials, submit required assessments, and get a final grade. This also means that you will not be able to purchase a Certificate experience.

  • When you purchase a Certificate you get access to all course materials, including graded assignments. Upon completing the course, your electronic Certificate will be added to your Accomplishments page - from there, you can print your Certificate or add it to your LinkedIn profile. If you only want to read and view the course content, you can audit the course for free.

  • You will be eligible for a full refund until two weeks after your payment date, or (for courses that have just launched) until two weeks after the first session of the course begins, whichever is later. You cannot receive a refund once you’ve earned a Course Certificate, even if you complete the course within the two-week refund period. See our full refund policy.

  • Yes, Coursera provides financial aid to learners who cannot afford the fee. Apply for it by clicking on the Financial Aid link beneath the "Enroll" button on the left. You’ll be prompted to complete an application and will be notified if you are approved. Learn more.

  • Technology plays a central role in our lives. Becoming comfortable with emerging technologies is critical to our continuing growth, both personally and professionally. Mastering established and emerging technology tools is an important part of being successful, whether in a classroom or on the job. Modern life revolves around the daily use of technology, however, many of us are not always adept at identifying the most useful technology tool for a particular project or situation.

In #EmTechMOOC, you will learn how to employ lifelong learning strategies while being introduced to well established and emerging technology tools. You will then have the opportunity to practice with them. By the end of the course, you will have created an ePortfolio that demonstrates your competency with a variety of useful tools, which can be integrated into your personal, academic, and professional work.

The greatest reward for participating in this course is learning more about how to be independent learner and also how to use technology tools to enhance your life.

    Remember to have fun!

  • Everyone can participate fully in the course, including participating in ALL graded and non-graded course activities and earn digital badges, including an #EmTechMOOC Mastery Badge, for free.

To enroll in this course and also earn a verified Coursera Certificate of Completion you need to pay the $29.00 course fee, or be a student, faculty, staff, or alumni, from any of the 64 State University of New York (SUNY) campuses.

  • All State University of New York (SUNY) students, faculty, staff, and alumni may participate for free and also earn a verified Coursera Certificate of Completion. SUNY-affiliates need to register here using a SUNY-based email address.

It is necessary to register using a SUNY email address issued by your campus. It is important to choose a new password that is different than the password you use to access your institution's email and other campus services.

For additional info and assistance enrolling, see the FAQs on the SUNY EmTech website at: http://suny.edu/emtech

  • You will build a personal toolbox to assist you to effectively use web-based technology tools for learning and career advancement.

You will create an ePortfolio to serve as a digital collection to showcase your skills, experiences, and accomplishments. Your ePortfolio will be progressively built-up through the course modules. Your completed portfolio will demonstrate self-reflective practices and showcase your skills and accomplishments. Just as importantly, your ePortfolio will serve as evidence of your personal learning and discovery process. The final course activity includes a peer-review process, which will provide guidance about how to improve your ePortfolio as you continue on your journey of lifelong learning.

You will earn digital badges and anyone from SUNY or those who pay the Coursera enrollment fee will also earn a verified Coursera Certificate of Completion. You can display your badges and certificate on your personal ePortfolio and through your social networks to share your accomplishment with your peers and prospective employers.

  • The complete title of this course is, “Exploring Emerging Technologies for Lifelong Learning and Success.” An abbreviated form we will use within the course content is #EmTechMOOC. This is also our social media hashtag. A hashtag is simply a term used to identify a keyword or topic of interest and help to categorize and track topics and to search for related information.

In this course, we highlight freely available tools and resources. To share information about the continually changing technologies that are available, we have built a socially-curated discovery engine to search for tools, websites, mobile apps, tutorials, and resources, which is called EmTechWIKI ( http://suny.edu/emtech ). We will direct you to this resource to help you find tools to complete the Discovery Exercises in each of the modules.

EmTechWIKI is a collaborative space where anyone is able to make edits and changes to help keep the collection of tools and resources current and up-to-date. Because technology changes so rapidly, we rely on the wisdom of the crowd to share new tools and point out when a technology is no longer a recommended option. There is additional information about how to make changes in EmTechWIKI at: http://suny.edu/emtech
